Jewelery Making Process

Step 1 - Designing

Designing the perfect jewelry is somewhat like that. This is the first step where the magic begins. At Kundan Gems, we have a team of expert jewelry designers who are involved in the process of designing each piece of jewelry flawlessly.
Our designers take their inspiration and slowly breathe life into it. However, that’s only the beginning. The design is then evaluated and analyzed before finalizing it.

Step 2 - CAD/CAM

This is the second step of our jewelry manufacturing process. In this process, we use CAD software, or Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology. It is a 2D and 3D computer aided software that helps to add dimensional accuracy and improve the quality of the jewelry design. This leads to more accurate and concise designs. At Kundan Gems, we also use CAD to convert our hand-drawn designs to automated processes. That allows us to maintain a database for our manufacturing process. In addition to CAD, we also use CAM, or Computer Aided Manufacture, software. CAM helps to automate our manufacturing process.

Step 3 - Model Making

After CAD/CAM, we enter the model-making stage. Model making is an important part of the jewelry manufacturing process that allows us to maintain the integrity and precision of the design, time after time. In this step, the resin output from CAM is then converted into a silver model by using a casting process. Now, the silver model is a master design that is copied to make many similar pieces of jewelry. The silver model is used to create a rubber mold from which all subsequent pieces are made.

Step 4 - Waxing

Waxing is an ancient tradition in the jewelry making process. It allows us to produce high-quality fashion jewelry and Indian ethnic jewelry. Waxing enables us to create organic shapes and hones our handcrafted jewelery. This step involves the production of wax pieces from the rubber molds made from the silver master mentioned above. The rubber mold is then placed on the commercial wax injector machine. Molten wax is pressure injected into the mold cavity to create wax models for casting.

Step 5 - Casting

The next step in the jewelry manufacturing process at Kundan Gems is casting. One of the most complex processes, it requires the skill of our most experienced casters. In this process, the wax tree is placed in a steel flask, which is then filled with a slurry of chemical powder, which solidifies in an hour. The flask is then heated in an electric furnace, which melts the wax, leaving behind a cavity tree. Molten metal is then poured into the flasks, allowed to cool, then demolished to reveal the jewelry in casting form.

Step 6 - Stone cutting

Cutting a gemstone is a slow process, one that requires a lot of skill and precision. The process begins by using a diamond saw to trim the rough piece into a more manageable size and shape, or to remove damaged or inclusion pieces of the stone. Our designers at Kundan Gems have created a showroom full of handmade genuine gemstone jewelry in Jaipur. Our gemstones are cut for clarity and color and in a way that enhances the brilliance of the gemstone.

Step 7 - Soldering

Creating the perfect piece of jewelry is an exciting process. Soldering is a very ancient part of the jewelry manufacturing process. We connect metals together and form intricate, unique designs.

Step 8 - Filling

The soldering process is followed by filling. Filing is a technique that helps in removing excess metal or solder from a piece that is being worked on. Different tools like files and burrs help to remove the excess casting layer and give the jewelry piece a smooth finish.

Step 9 - Gemstone setting

At Kundan Gems, we set our gemstones by hand. Since we offer genuine gemstone jewelry, we take care to set the gemstones accurately for best results. The goal of this step is to present the gemstone in the most flattering way without dramatizing the method by which it is secured. Stone setting has five striking setting techniques, such as prong setting, bezel setting, pavé setting, channel setting, and flush setting.

Step 10 - Polishing

After the stone has been set as desired, the jewelry piece is taken for polishing, to make it shiny. Our craftsmen, at Kundan Gems, use both manual and machine polishing techniques to achieve that final flawless finish.

Step 11 - Plating

At Kundan Gems, we offer various types of plating for our jewelry. We offer rhodium plating, silver and gold plating. In addition to making the jewelry shiny and beautiful, the plating also offers better resistance against scratches and tarnish. Our silver and gold-plated brass jewelry are quite popular for their long-lasting and tarnish resistance qualities.

Step 12 - Enamel / Beading

In addition to making genuine gemstone jewelry in brass and silver. Kundan Gems is also one of the largest manufacturers of enamel beads in Jaipur.

Step 13 - Packing

This is the last step of our jewelry manufacturing process. After a thorough quality control check, when we find the final product meets our or the client’s standard of quality criteria, we pack the product for our clients. The packing process is just as careful and diligent as the rest of our process. Each jewelry piece from our wholesale manufacturing unit undergoes a strict standard of quality control and is then packed carefully to be parceled to the designated place.
